Ergonomics at work place Training- Date : 18 June 2025

Introduction:
Ergonomics is the science of designing the workplace, keeping in mind the
capabilities and limitations of the worker. Manual material handling includes any
tasks which require a person to lift, lower, push, pull, hold or carry any object or
material. A systematic ergonomics improvement process removes risk factors that
lead to work musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) and allows for improved human
performance and productivity. Investing in ergonomics can help to increase the
health and wellbeing of workers. Effective ergonomic products and practices can
increase productivity by reducing the time taken to complete daily tasks, as well
as reducing instances of absenteeism due to work-related injury or illness.
ERA at the workplace is a careful examination of what could cause harm to people
in the workplace. Doing a risk assessment will help employers identify the
significant risks in their workplace, and prevent WMSD from developing. In most
cases, hazards and sources of injuries / discomforts successfully can be identified
using observational and checklist-driven techniques. The detection of ergonomics
risk does not require advanced tools or techniques.
